Thursday : This and That!

biggirl

Good Morning _

Just wanted to check in. Lots going on both good and ( not so good ) The bad news is I was just advised that my sister-in-law lost her husband yesterday quite unexpectedly. He died in his sleep I guess. And he is only in his late 40s or early 50s. I didn’t know Billy well at all but my heart goes out to his wife Johnnie Sue this morning. I feel so bad for her, because they were very much in love.

His death also serves as a reminder to me to make every day count because you TRULY never know just how much time you have left on this earth.

Otherwise, I have a busy day planned. Lots going on, some of which has me feeling pretty hopeful.

For one, today I find out if I have that job I applied for last week. ( UPDATE ) I didn’t get the job but ironically they told me to keep them in mind and to keep checking back with them … 😦 )

Another thing I am working on is a ‘pay it forward’ web design project for a woman who does feral cat rescue work. She is a Facebook friend who I met a year or so ago. The other day, she did some networking for my cousin who is trying to find homes for kittens. She already has a Facebook community page with some 1600 followers. I was one her first followers. Anyway I saw an opportunity and help her expand the effort. It’s not all selfless though because I love animals, and have done a lot of rescue work in my time too but also I’ve been thinking about diving back into the competitive world of web design as a way to support us so the design work I do for her can be added to my poor, meager portfolio. 🙂 I adore web design but haven’t done too much of it lately.

I will share the link when she is ready to launch the site. Right now, there’s still a lot of tweaking to do.

Counting on ya’ll to pay her a visit and give her a warm welcome to the blogesphere though, k?

Last but not least, there is another thing that has my mind boggled . I don’t want to mention it YET because I am not sure if it for real. But if it is REAL, it could be life-changing and truly a miracle. Enough said on that other than I will be making some phone calls and doing some research on the matter. Sighs. I am not holding my breath but I can’t help but be a wee bit excited! 🙂

OH and YES — our fundraiser — there are 17 days left in August. We have raised $1987.00 to date. We still have $ 1,013.00 to go so DONATIONS ( large and small ) are STILL needed and VERY much appreciated. PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE!!! WE still NEED YOU!

Our Glass House ( a peek inside)

KeepInSight

We live in a relatively quiet working class neighborhood of mostly manufactured ( mobile homes) on nice size lots. Our home ( mobile home) is modest and unassuming but aesthetically pleasing, at least that is the appearance to passers-by.

We chose it for the picturesque setting , easy terms and low down payment. While the home is older, it was bright cheery, and spacious enough not to feel closed in. It has also been recently redone. Nothing fancy, but nice drywall refinishes ( textured) , clean carpet, new fixtures, blinds throughout. Easy enough to put my own personal touches in and make it a comfortable home.

In my initial appraisal, the only rehab it needed was the kitchen cabinets needed updating and eventually new appliances. Oh and the toilet, much too small and too low for my liking.

Well… within a month or so of moving in, we realized we had a septic problem that was alleviated when we stopped using the washing machine.

No problem, there was a laundromat around the corner.

Or in a pinch – we could do our clothes in the tub which we did ( do). We would spin the clothes out and then put them in the dryer.

And then dryer broke.

Then the laundromat closed down.

By then, our savings was gone and getting to the Laundromat in town became an issue.

As for awhile, paying our garbage bill which escalated even when we stopping using the service after our paid service was up. THe garbage bill is paid quarterly (3 months at a time) and we managed for the first six months of living here.

After that. the bagged garbage stacked up on the porch. A pile remains under a tarp. With the hot weather, it smells pretty bad and attracts buggies.

Our latest garbage service bill is for $219.00. $150 of which is past due. If paid, we can resume service but it will only resume and there is a limit to the amount of garbage we can put out on the curb for collection. We would still need to do a dump run. This costs money too .

Mind you, while we had the thrift store, we had access to a dumpster but we had to be considerate of the other businesses we shared it with so we could not utilize it to solve all our garbage disposal issues but access to the dumpster did help for awhile.

Then a plumbing issue was realized in the kitchen. When we tried to remedy the situation the fittings crumbled, rendering the sink useless. Of course, due to the age of the home, the plumbing is not a standard size and the supplies need to be ordered. Then we would have to rent an industrial size ‘snake’ to clear the pipes. And of course we could not hire a plumber to do it for us.

Now we bathe, wash clothes and do our dishes in the only bathroom. This has been going on for almost a year.

Not the most sanitary environment for anyone. Not to mention what it does to the psyche.

All this added to regular home maintenance issues that need to be dealt with such as the carpet needs a good cleaning, we need to get a pest control service to come in now, the blinds need replacing because of the hot Florida sun have left them brittle and breaking . The septic tank needs to be pumped out too.

So yes, our home has suffered . These problems are inevitable when you are struggling to just get by and there is no extra money for these fixes.

When closing the store, things got worse. Stuff that was ‘temporarily’ stored on the porch got wet. More mess.

I write this post to give you all a clearer understanding of the NEEDS remaining in this fundraiser.

I want you to know, this is NOT about REDECORATING or GETTING new furniture , this is to make our home habitable AGAIN. Up until now. this was something we had to live with. Sadly it was not top priority. BUT these needs have always been near the top of our list.

Now with so much of the other stuff dealt with. We look forward to focusing on these items.

Thanks for your understanding and support.

God Bless You All.

Value Assessment

yourvalue

If you are reading this, chances are you are following our blog and if you are following our blog there must be a reason. ( >>> continued.. ) I’d like to think you are at the very least interested in our story. I’d love to think that some of you might even be concerned about our welfare, even if you are still struggling with the idea of helping.

With that said, I’d like to focus on the following quote.

“Your value doesn’t decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth.”

This quote reminds me of a year or so ago, when we first realized we were deep financial trouble and how we were treated ( by most ( not all) in our family) when asking for help. How their responses or lack thereof made us feel. Kind of worthless is the best way I can describe it. Like we had no value at all. And at the risk of being redundant here. It HURTS! Does things to your self-esteem. Damages the psyche! It’s almost as if we were INVISIBLE! As if you don’t even EXIST to them anymore which at times, might seem THE blessing. One even begins to believe they have NO VALUE.

But I assure WE DO HAVE VALUE and we are WORTHY of the assistance we are asking for in this fundraising effort.

Most of who know us would say we are bright, talented, hard -working, spiritual and caring individuals. As a couple, one employer described us as dynamic. Our pets think we are pretty AWESOME too. We have a handful of GOOD friends who have been good to us and to whom we have been good to. Together and separately, we have been active in the community, have done volunteer work. Enjoyed success, hob-knobbed with the elite and at one time made it to everyone’s guest list socially. Ron has never had children of his own, but I gave birth to two children. Raised another as my own. We are grandparents. We are the nice people down the block who mind their own business and quietly go about their lives unless called upon.

All of which NOW means dittle squat! Money, Mnoey, Money! It causes so many problems. It changes people. But so neccesary in the real world.

Which is the reason we found it necessary to appeal to the public in this medium.

The hardest thing I think on this journey is assessing a monetary goal. It’s like trying to value ourselves in dollar and cents. I find it nearly impossible BUT I am going to attempt it here.

Ideally, $3000.00 is a realistic figure. This WILL NOT pay ALL of our debts off, but it will stop the bleeding and put us back on the road to recovery.

If we were able to raise that money it would no doubt be life-changing for us, we would pay two or three months mortgage payments, take care of the home maintenance ( we so desperately need) it would buy us a second-hand washer, pay current and past due utility bills. We would also have the money we need to rent a truck and move the contents of our thrift store into storage. The rest, we’d use for gas in our vehicle ( I call it running money) so we could get to and from job interviews and such. AND that my FRIENDS , would make the DIFFERENCE between sinking, and swimming.

Now saying that, I realize that it is very unlikely that one belevolent soul is going to come along and hand us a check for this amount, no questions asked. But I do think it is feesible IF enough people, were willing to do a little, in a short amount of time, this goal could be met.

Do you know, the $ 125.00 that we raised as a result of this fundraiser has made the difference between us eating and not? IT HAS!

So please NEVER underestimate your ability, to help someone ( whether it be us, someone closer to home, whoever)

To give you a little more perspective about our immediate needs . I know $15.00 will feed us for 2-3 days. $40.00 will feed us for about 5 days. $75.00 will feed us quite well for a week , $25.00 will pay a water bill. $184 will get our car insurance reinstated ( it lapsed on the 17th due to non payment ) $125.00 will buy us another week with the people who hold our mortgage. $431.87, will pay one, monthly mortgage payment. $144.00 will pay a light bill.

If you have questions, comments or concerns, please email us at : allbuthomeless@gmail.com. I will gladly disclose pertinent information to who would like, and in a position to help us. You can also get many of your questions answered by visiting the RED TABS pages section across the top of the page. Click on our donate page for several options on how you can help .

IF you can do nothing else, THANK YOU as always for LIKING, FOLLOWING and SHARING this blog with your friends and on your social media pages. WE need all the exposure we can get at this point. After all, this is all about numbers isn’t it?

Ok, enough said. I’m stepping down off my soap box now 😉

Thanks to all and to all, I wish you a WONDERFULLY, BLESSED DAY!
