Venturing Out….

good-friend-quotes-for-her-him

Today we took a day trip to visit an old friend( 20+ years ) who lives in a neighboring community 24 miles to the northwest of where we are. Many of our friends migrated up this way from South Florida through the years. But she is one of the reasons we chose this area to call home. She is a good friend.

Besides needing a change of scenery, and a chance to catch up with her, as we haven’t gotten up that way in months, I needed her help with a verification letter for our food assistance application.

She is not online, and has been dealing with some biggies of her own, including the loss of her husband and some of her own health issues that have surfaced since his death. She also has her grown son, his gf and a granddaughter living with her now, which presents other issues for her. Jinny is one of the most positive people I know, but has been down a lot lately. She’s had it tough too.

Regardless I knew I wanted to visit with her besides needing her help, but because of what she herself is dealing with and because of the gas expense, we have been putting it off. Only $10 for gas, right? BUT, it’s hard to spend it, when you don’t have it or need to spend it on something else. In our situation I can give myself a headache, with all the strategizing. We always have to ‘plan’ our trips wisely. In this case, were able to justify the expense, but barely.

We couldn’t put it off any longer and very glad we went. We had a nice visit though left to leave for our journey home mid-afternoon because my husband wasn’t feeling well and I actually drove home which is rare. I know I don’t talk of my husband’s health much but there are some issues and when he has these episodes, I worry about him.

He seened to get over -heated, and began sweating profusely We know from recent blood work he has some metabolic disorders, as well as high blood pressure and long untreated ulcers.

We are in the midst of a very slow process of applying for Medicaid for him because we don’t have insurance and he has several ailments that need tending to. Right now he is getting some primary care through our local health department but even so, his medical expenses are mounting up.

Once home I made him drink plenty of water and take a cool shower and then we took a nap.

All is well this evening but I wanted to explain my absence today. Smiles.

Will catch up with you all tomorrow.

SO for now. I wish you all sweet dreams and an awesome week!

Yesterday, TODAY and Hopes for Tomorrow!

checklist

Today, instead of focusing on what the needs ARE, I want to focus on what the needs WERE .

Back in April, I posted the first item on this checklist . TMI? I am sorry! But this was the REALITY.

The one thing I failed to mention early on, WAS that the last month before I went public with this, I was actually IMPRISONED in my own home for almost a month. Not because I wanted to live like a hermit, but because I could not face the world in the state I was in. NOBODY should have to live like that. I felt like a caged animal.

I am reclusive to a point in my nature anyway, but ad a bit of misfortune to this AND I was toast.

Things were so bad at that point, I couldn’t even think about goals, or the possibility of actually making any real progress BECAUSE the immediate needs were so GREAT! 🙂

BUT we’ve come so far! Slowly as we moved out of our crisis situation ( AND YES, I mean CRISIS) , I could actually see and assign a monetary goal to this fundraiser which was ( and still is) $3000.00. This amount will in no way solve all our financial woes BUT it will definitely release us from our overwhelming burdens that are still on our plate. PLEASE SEE our NEEDS page

As a direct result of this fundraiser, $1,245.00 has been raised to DATE.

WE ARE MORE than 1/3 of the way there! Be assured, your contributions have made a REAL DIFFERENCE for us.

As an indirect result, other things are beginning to turn in our favor.

Like the ability to get to and from appointments, interviews. In effect, opening doors to agency assistance that we were shut off from before, simply because we couldn’t afford the gas to get to them. Let alone, being able to show up with any kind of respectable presentation. Even washing our clothes had become an issue.

Again, we’ve come a long way BUT still have a ways to go!

Your DONATIONS are STILL needed and GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you all so very much!

We are so very GRATEFUL for your kindnesses, support, following, sharing and friendship!

God Bless

Pasta anyone? :)

pasta

Ok, so today didn’t go quite as well as we might have hoped. In fact it did not go well at all. Peggy ( the one who has been interested in a vintage buffet) backed out after speaking with her husband. They are strapped too. AND The meeting that my husband had with the Shriners was unsuccessful. Oh WELL! I’m not complaining. Tomorrow things will be better. I am certain.

Yes today, our food rations are pretty low BUT we have enough boxed pasta in the cupboard to feed an army… . Hence, my most clever blog title! TRUE! If I learned anything from this experience, is there’s lots you can do with pasta. I also found a package of instant mashed potatos ( my comfort food, seriously! 🙂 so that’s what I am having for dinner.

AGAIN I am not complaining. Some don’t even have that so NO this is NOT a desperate plea. Just the reality of the day.

Tomorrow things will be better.

I believe it!

🙂

Sometimes I forget…

forgetNO

YES my friends, while immersed in the merciful respite that blogging offers me. In my friendly interactions with all of you that I so enjoy. In utilizing these glorious tools at my avail that keep my creative juices flowing, my hands busy, and mind from going numb. All for which I am TRULY GRATEFUL for, I forget ( at least temporarily) the gravity of our situation and that the primary purpose of this blog is to try to raise funds to help us in our situation.

Even the deluge of sad news coming out of Oklahoma is a distraction somehow, except in a different way ofcourse. But at least, it puts things in perspective, takes me out of myself and my own neediness, to remember that I have a compassionate side, too. Afterall, my home is not torn to shreads, I have not lost family, friends or beloved pets in such a tragically sudden event. I can’t even imagine the HELL those people went through, are still going through.

My losses are thankfully more material although relationships have been strained, over time, but still a slow and agonizing process! And we are just two people, in a sea of neediness. Does that make us any less worthy of assistance?

YES there are still those moments when I feel a CASUALTY somehow. Banished to the bottom of of humanity’s list of priorities. Just out of sight of those who might be willing or able to help me IF NOT for this more URGENT call from Oklahoma.

Just as it feels when seeking out public assistance, or help from local agencies.

GOD FORGIVE ME for these selfish thoughts!

BUT it’s like this ….

DO YOU HAVE SMALL CHILDREN, LIVING IN THE HOME? NO.

ARE YOU A SENIOR CITIZEN? NO.

ARE YOU RECEIVING DISABILITY PAYMENTS? NO

IF I WERE, I’D BE ABLE TO PAY MY BILLS and WOULDN’T BE HERE.

DO YOU HAVE ANY HEALTH LIMITATIONS THAT KEEP YOU FROM STANDING ON YOUR FEET ALL DAY WITH A PICK AX IN YOUR HAND ?

WELL I WOULDN’T KNOW BECAUSE I CAN’T AFFORD TO SEE A PHYSICIAN.

ARE YOU ONLINE? YES, BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE IF YOU WANT TO APPLY FOR ANYTHING.

BUT, IF YOU ARE COMPUTER LITERATE, certainly YOU ARE SMART enough to FIND WORK AND WHY ARE YOU HERE IF YOU HAVE INTERNET ACCESS? INTERNET, is NOT a NECCESITY!

DO YOU HAVE ANY KIND OF INCOME?

YES, WE OWN A THRIFTSTORE BUT ARE PRESENTLY OPERATING AT A LOSS.

OHHHH?

ARE YOU SUFFERING from MENTAL ILLNESS?

NO! BUT I’M BORDERLINE !

ARE YOU ADDICTED TO DRUGS OR ALCOHOL? NO!

ARE YOU RECEIVING FOOD ASSISTANCE? NO!

ARE YOU HOMELESS? NO , NOT YET!

DID YOUR HOUSE JUST GET RIPPED IN HALF? NO!

IM SORRY MRS DE—, BUT BASED ON YOUR ANSWERS YOU DON’T QUALIFY FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES AT THIS TIME, BUT FEEL FREE TO REAPPLY ONCE YOU ARE HOMELESS, BECOME CRAZY, OR ARE DIAGNOSED WITH A TERMINAL ILLNESS!

I hope you enjoyed my little dose of creative NON- FICTION. 😉 Even I might laugh if it wasn’t so TRUE!

Value Assessment

yourvalue

If you are reading this, chances are you are following our blog and if you are following our blog there must be a reason. ( >>> continued.. ) I’d like to think you are at the very least interested in our story. I’d love to think that some of you might even be concerned about our welfare, even if you are still struggling with the idea of helping.

With that said, I’d like to focus on the following quote.

“Your value doesn’t decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth.”

This quote reminds me of a year or so ago, when we first realized we were deep financial trouble and how we were treated ( by most ( not all) in our family) when asking for help. How their responses or lack thereof made us feel. Kind of worthless is the best way I can describe it. Like we had no value at all. And at the risk of being redundant here. It HURTS! Does things to your self-esteem. Damages the psyche! It’s almost as if we were INVISIBLE! As if you don’t even EXIST to them anymore which at times, might seem THE blessing. One even begins to believe they have NO VALUE.

But I assure WE DO HAVE VALUE and we are WORTHY of the assistance we are asking for in this fundraising effort.

Most of who know us would say we are bright, talented, hard -working, spiritual and caring individuals. As a couple, one employer described us as dynamic. Our pets think we are pretty AWESOME too. We have a handful of GOOD friends who have been good to us and to whom we have been good to. Together and separately, we have been active in the community, have done volunteer work. Enjoyed success, hob-knobbed with the elite and at one time made it to everyone’s guest list socially. Ron has never had children of his own, but I gave birth to two children. Raised another as my own. We are grandparents. We are the nice people down the block who mind their own business and quietly go about their lives unless called upon.

All of which NOW means dittle squat! Money, Mnoey, Money! It causes so many problems. It changes people. But so neccesary in the real world.

Which is the reason we found it necessary to appeal to the public in this medium.

The hardest thing I think on this journey is assessing a monetary goal. It’s like trying to value ourselves in dollar and cents. I find it nearly impossible BUT I am going to attempt it here.

Ideally, $3000.00 is a realistic figure. This WILL NOT pay ALL of our debts off, but it will stop the bleeding and put us back on the road to recovery.

If we were able to raise that money it would no doubt be life-changing for us, we would pay two or three months mortgage payments, take care of the home maintenance ( we so desperately need) it would buy us a second-hand washer, pay current and past due utility bills. We would also have the money we need to rent a truck and move the contents of our thrift store into storage. The rest, we’d use for gas in our vehicle ( I call it running money) so we could get to and from job interviews and such. AND that my FRIENDS , would make the DIFFERENCE between sinking, and swimming.

Now saying that, I realize that it is very unlikely that one belevolent soul is going to come along and hand us a check for this amount, no questions asked. But I do think it is feesible IF enough people, were willing to do a little, in a short amount of time, this goal could be met.

Do you know, the $ 125.00 that we raised as a result of this fundraiser has made the difference between us eating and not? IT HAS!

So please NEVER underestimate your ability, to help someone ( whether it be us, someone closer to home, whoever)

To give you a little more perspective about our immediate needs . I know $15.00 will feed us for 2-3 days. $40.00 will feed us for about 5 days. $75.00 will feed us quite well for a week , $25.00 will pay a water bill. $184 will get our car insurance reinstated ( it lapsed on the 17th due to non payment ) $125.00 will buy us another week with the people who hold our mortgage. $431.87, will pay one, monthly mortgage payment. $144.00 will pay a light bill.

If you have questions, comments or concerns, please email us at : allbuthomeless@gmail.com. I will gladly disclose pertinent information to who would like, and in a position to help us. You can also get many of your questions answered by visiting the RED TABS pages section across the top of the page. Click on our donate page for several options on how you can help .

IF you can do nothing else, THANK YOU as always for LIKING, FOLLOWING and SHARING this blog with your friends and on your social media pages. WE need all the exposure we can get at this point. After all, this is all about numbers isn’t it?

Ok, enough said. I’m stepping down off my soap box now 😉

Thanks to all and to all, I wish you a WONDERFULLY, BLESSED DAY!

~ Cheryl

Fri-day ( late and dollars short) an update!

onestep-suzi

It’s been an interesting week. All this adventure. WHEW! Which is exactly what my husband promised me when we married. ❤ .

Still we have managed to earn ( on our own ) about $150 to give to our mortgage holder towards what we had promised which was an entire mortgage payment of $ 431.87. Leaving a deficit of $281.87.

So today began with an email to the mortgage holder , stating that fact, and I have yet to hear back.

I 'm guessing she will probably accept it but I can't be sure.

It would be GREAT, to be able to add to that by days end.

As of now, still no sign of FINAL vacate notice at the store OR no changes in public record concerning this eviction so that pretty much guarantees a few more days in our favor!

If you can help, please visit our donate page in the red tabs section across the top of the blog.

If you can do nothing else, thanks for LIKING, FOLLOWING, and SHARING as ALWAYS.

I’ll keep you updated as I know more!

Thanks AGAIN ~ C
